Do Something About It
-
One of my favorite quote's is "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)Caroline Barnett spoke here at our church last week during the NY2LA tour. She shared a great message that basically said that we need to take the gifts that God has given us and do something to change the world around us. We could put an end to the tragedies in our world if we would stop saying "what a shame" and start saying "what can I do to change it". It might just be sending some money to support people who are on the forefront of the fight to make it right, or God might be calling you to dedicate your life, or a season of your life, to fight to stop the world's injustices. So let's stop merely feeling people's pains and start doing something to stop it
Give What You Have
-
I used to always ask God to bless me with money so I can then bless people. After reading Acts 3:6, Peter said, "I don't have any silver or gold for you. But I'll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!". He gave what he had. And that was probably a bigger gift than just money.
Today I was able to help a friend by replacing her A/C compressor. It took me like and hour and save her almost $500. It felt good to use what I had to bless someone.
Tomorrow we will be launching our new outreach called Adopt-A-Block. We are going to be meeting at the youth center at 9:00am and go to a local apartment complex and pass out flyers about Mega Sports Camp and about a free family cook-out that we are going to have there in a few weeks. We are going to ask people if they want prayer, play with kids and eventually , we'd like to bus people to church. So, come on out tomorrow and give what you have, your time.
Ask for Wisdom
-
2 Chronicles 1:8-12 (NLT)Solomon replied to God, “You showed faithful love to David, my father, and now you have made me king in his place. 9 O Lord God, please continue to keep your promise to David my father, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth! 10 Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly,[e] for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?”
11 God said to Solomon, “Because your greatest desire is to help your people, and you did not ask for wealth, riches, fame, or even the death of your enemies or a long life, but rather you asked for wisdom and knowledge to properly govern my people—12 I will certainly give you the wisdom and knowledge you requested. But I will also give you wealth, riches, and fame such as no other king has had before you or will ever have in the future!”
This is such a cool passage. We need to get our eyes off of our circumstances and focus on how we can make a greater impact of those around us. When we do that, then God will bless our work and our lives.
Chaps?
-
So even in Bible times, buttless chaps brought shame on all who see them:
1 Chronicles 19:2-5 "But when David’s ambassadors arrived in the land of Ammon, 3 the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun, “Do you really think these men are coming here to honor your father? No! David has sent them to spy out the land so they can come in and conquer it!” 4 So Hanun seized David’s ambassadors and shaved them, cut off their robes at the buttocks, and sent them back to David in shame. 5 When David heard what had happened to the men, he sent messengers to tell them, “Stay at Jericho until your beards grow out, and then come back.” For they felt deep shame because of their appearance"
I know . . . shameful
